Saturday Christian Fiction Carnival

This Saturday's Christian Fiction Carnival's question is:

Whether or not you celebrate Halloween, there's something about the shorter days and chilly air that makes one want to curl up with a scary book. The horror market for Christian fiction is growing in creativity and testing all sorts of boundaries. The suspense market is also very rich with many talented authors. So my question(s) for you is...what's the best Christian fiction horror or suspense novel that you've read? What book would you recommend to someone who wanted to try out these genres? What's a book in these genres you want to read but haven't yet?

I love this time of the year, especially now that I live in North Carolina. The leaves are turning orange, yellow, and red before slowly falling to the ground and covering the still green grass. I can see the air as I scream during soccer games. I love the cold weather! It gets so hot and humid here in the summer...fall is a blessed change. I love turning on our fire place and settling down to read. I'm not very much into the horror or thriller genres, but I do have two authors that I enjoy.

The first is Robert Liparulo. He writes for adults and teens...fantasy and thriller/horror. I totally enjoyed his House of Dark Shadows (Dreamhouse Kings Book 1) for teens. It was part fantasy, part time-travel, part thriller. Also his Comes a Horseman was really scary and intriguing. Here's what I've said previously about it:

The similes he uses are original and brilliant. He brought action and emotion together very well. I loved the main characters and despised the bad guys. What bad guys he had too!!! YIKES! I shall never look at the historical Vikings again without cringing. The book does not have as much art as I thought it would but it makes up for it with great FBI gadgetry and believability. It even has a Shih Tzu which is my personal favorite dog. (Of course I'm biased because I have a 1/2 Shih Tzu 1/2 Jack Russell puppy.) Anyway, I recommend this to all Thriller lovers. It is not to be missed.

Second, I very much enjoyed Sue Dent's Never Ceese. It has vampires and werewolves.

Here's what I've said about it in a prior post:

At first? Reluctant. Next? Intrigued. By the second page? Thoroughly engaged. Sue has brought the urban mythos of vampires and werewolves to the spiritual plane. She causes her readers to delve into tragedy while hoping for redemption. Bravo! I eagerly await the promised sequel.

Forever Richard , the sequel is due out soon...so, that is the one I cannot wait to read and haven't yet read. ;-)

Happy Halloween...and happy reading!

Wow - some of those covers look really neat! I haven't read any of them, but a few are being added to my wish list - they sound really interesting!

Take care Mimi!

Hey M.C. I loved Robert's book also. I seriously doubt I could read any of his adult fiction. The first 2 of his YA books were plenty for me! Ted Dekker is another one that freaks me out! Sheesh... even Christian horror makes me not sleep. :( tee hee hee

Blessings,
the other you

And Mimi gives me the chance to brag! :) The British Fantasy Society who reviewed Never Ceese for me and loved it, asked if they could get an advance review copy of Forever Richard. Yeah right, like they had to ask. LOL

Sufficed to say, I now have at least one blurb for my book cover (which actually isn't the on pictured but another to be revealed on Shoutlife.com October 31st featuring a surprise cover model) What did they have to say?

Insightful and thought provoking. Well worth the wait.

I took a very big sigh of relief when I got that. Yayness, they liked it! Maybe everyone else will too!

Thanks for the recommendations. It's good to know you're not into horror either.

Now, Sue Dent's will definitely be in my TBR! Good recommendations keep on coming through this Carnival! Glad I've got to know this craze. I've been having a good time reading blogs that participated in the said carnival, really. Made my TBR list soo long though!

I've read a lot about that Never Ceese, BTW. Seems an interesting read. I have so much in my TBR, and still finding time for the House by Dekker. I would love to finish it before the movie's premiere..
